The Litter Index survey for 2008 was conducted in August and was composed of a team of Keep Bulloch Beautiful volunteers. Inspected areas included multiple locations in Bulloch County and Statesboro as well as areas in Portal, Register, and Brooklet. Each area is repeatedly inspected annually to identify problem spots that need more attention and areas of improvement. The overall results for 2008 proved that certain areas had improved, however it also revealed that certain areas still remain a problem at large.
Confirmed problem areas included the intersection at Hwy. 46 and Hwy. 301 before entering Register and the area around the Portal Recycling Center. Brooklet, on the other hand, was reported as having major improvements and very clean roadways along Hwy. 24.
One significant effort to improve these locations and more will be the Great American Cleanup that will take place April 18, 2009 in Bulloch County. Keep Bulloch Beautiful is welcoming any volunteers who would like to help with this wonderful beautification event.
Keep Bulloch Beautiful also has a Litter Hotline that is specifically used in litter reporting. If you spot someone with an unsecure load or littering from a vehicle, please call 912.764.2233 and report your finding. Be sure to include the date, time, location, and description of the vehicle with tag number
