Keep Bulloch Beautiful Supports Georgia’s
Litter. It Costs You Initiative
Campaign targets litter eradication by educating Bulloch County residents, initiating cleanup programs and enforcing litter laws
On August 29, Governor Sonny Perdue unveiled Georgia’s new statewide anti-litter campaign. Litter. It Costs You was introduced as the new tag line for this innovative and coordinated attack on litter that encompasses a three-pronged approach: education, enforcement and eradication. The campaign leverages the resources of state agencies, city and county governments, and volunteer organizations to engage the public and effect change. In Bulloch County, Keep Bulloch Beautiful will utilize the campaign’s tools to prevent and clean up litter.
“Litter is an important issue for the residents of Bulloch County,” said Brooke Brandenburg, Director of KBB. “Keep Bulloch Beautiful calls on residents of all ages to take responsibility for this community and tackle this issue. Our organization will be here to provide the resources on a local level to achieve the state’s goals.”
Litter. It Costs You provides individuals, schools, enforcement officials, volunteer organizations and local governments with resources to get involved and make a difference through a new Web site (litteritcostyou.org), community toolkit, community challenges for youth and adults, a state litter mascot, “The Brown Trasher,” and classroom outreach.
“Our organization will be supporting the Litter. It Costs You initiative by continuing to build public and private partnerships in the community, vamping up public education efforts, organizing Rivers Alive on September 30, and working with our local judicial system to enforce Georgia’s new litter law,” continued Brandenburg. “We also invite individuals to log on to the litteritcostsyou.org Web site to search for activities in which they can get involved.”
Rivers Alive will be held on Saturday, September 30. Volunteers will meet at Mill Creek Park at 9 a.m. and will split into teams to clean up the banks of the Ogeechee River. For more information, contact Keep Bulloch Beautiful at 764-6147 or kbb@keepbullochbeautiful.org.
